Desk of Secretary

Mr. Alok Kumar Upadhyay is the Secretary of the organization- PRERNA. At the age of 24, he waged a campaign to bring about social change and established "PRERNA ", a group of youth devoted to reducing social mal-practices, superstitions and promotion of social justice. Under his leadership, "Prerna" was registered under the Trust Act in 2004.
PRERNA has successfully formed 250 Self-Help Groups in the Palamu division and promoted thousands of women to self-reliant through improved livelihood options. The districts of Palamu, Garhwa, and Latehar come as the most backward and nexal affected districts of Jharkhand and because of the acute poverty, the condition of scheduled castes especially scheduled tribes is quite deplorable here. PRERNA has been associated with the promotion of tribal art, culture, sports and forest produce to make their lives sustainable.
“PRERNA” and “Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA)” are jointly working in Jharkhand for the rights of child labor and their education and also for the reduction of malpractices like child trade, child marriage and other malicious practices and immoral works by considering Nobel Laureate Shri Kailash Satyarthi as an ideal. Started with the mission to root out, hundreds of child laborers and bonded laborers have now been freed and linked to the mainstream. PRERNA is also promoting self-defense (Judo Karate) training to tribal girls in the remote areas of Latehar, Palamu and Garhwa districts and aims to train 10,000 tribal girls by 2025.
As a reward, Mr. Alok Kumar Upadhyay has so far been honored by NABARD∣ Jharkhand State Women's Commission for Women and Child Development∣ Youth Affairs for Arts, Culture and Sports∣ and District Rural Development Agency of Garhwa, Palamu & Latehar for his committed work.
